Local mode
Not released. This page describes planned behaviour as designed for edition 1.0-draft-1 of Open Personal Context. The specification is the normative reference, and what is described here may change before any release.
npx autonym-local is intended to start the same Autonym server the hosted service and the
self-host bundle will run, on your own machine, with setup in your browser. The aim is the fastest way to
try Autonym and a complete answer for a person who never wants a host.
The same server, not a reduced one
Local mode is planned to keep every rule the hosted server keeps: grants for every read, signed disclosures, receipts in the log and the same authorisation server. It is intended to pass the same Core conformance checks as the hosted and self-hosted server. Nothing is skipped because the record is on your own machine.
What it cannot do
A client that connects from its vendor's own infrastructure cannot reach a server on your machine, so only a locally configured client can use local mode. Its handles do not resolve from outside your machine.
Import and export
Local mode is intended to use the same signed export format as any other provider, so a local record can move to a host later, with anything unsupported reported before it moves. See Export and move.
